Portland Japanese Garden Collaboration

The Portland Classical Chinese Garden and the Portland Japanese Garden have teamed up to offer free admission to each other’s members. This exciting collaboration gives members of both gardens a chance to learn more about these Portland treasures and to see fall transition into winter…

During the Month of November, 2008

* Portland Classical Chinese Garden (PCCG) members will be admitted free to the Portland Japanese Garden (PJG) and PJG members will be admitted free to the PCCG
* Each membership card good for two admissions
* 10% gift store discounts valid at both venues for members
* Presentation of membership cards required at both gardens for entry

This November, the Portland Japanese Garden welcomes members of the Portland Classical Chinese Garden to come share the beauties of autumn. Not only will a gorgeous array of Japanese maples be in full color, but from November 15-30 their Pavilion features an extraordinary exhibition of bamboo basketry and sculpture by award-winning Japanese artist and craftsman, Jiro Yonezawa. Stroll the 5.5 acre garden paths and see five different styles of Japanese garden, each with its own special character and features: the Strolling Pond Garden, the Tea Garden, the Natural Garden, the Sand and Stone Garden, and the Flat Garden. End your visit on the Overlook with the most spectacular “borrowed scenery” view of the city of Portland and Mt. Hood.

T’ai Chi Chih in the Garden

November 22
10:15 a.m.

Visit the Garden and see a demonstration of local teachers and students doing a group practice of t’ai chi chih, a moving meditation, incorporating 19 movements and a final pose involving the generating, circulating, and balancing of chi energy.  Free with Garden admission.

Dr. Jiyu Yang discusses and demonstrates the classical Chinese art forms of poetry and calligraphy. Bring home your favorite poem in beautiful calligraphic script.

The Art of Chinese Brush Painting

Exhibits

Art Showcase

The Garden will feature a show and sale of original art from Suzhou and from Jiangsu Province.

A percentage of all sales are returned to the Garden to support future programs.

There are no classes scheduled at this time.

Event Policies

Where noted, some events, classes, and lectures require registration and/or payment.  To register for these events and classes, please call the Garden’s Registration line at 503.228.8131 ext. 2001 and leave all required information.  Unless otherwise noted, tickets or letters of confirmation are not issued.  Your registration is complete when the event fee is paid in full.

To receive a full refund, cancellations must be made one full week in advance of the event, class or lecture.

Due to advanced purchasing of supplies and staffing requirements, participants who withdraw less than seven days prior to the event will not receive a refund or credit.

Cancellations by the Portland Classical Chinese Garden

Portland Classical Chinese Garden reserves the right to cancel or modify events, classes and/or lectures or change venues when necessary and will make every effort to contact all registrants in advance and/or accommodate them in other courses.  Events, classes or lectures may be canceled for insufficient enrollment at any time.  In this case, all participants will receive a full refund.
